The gangs all here

(I must stop doing punning post titles!)
Nearly done the second confrontation gang to go along with tech gangers. I've got a couple of details to paint on but I reckon they are 95% finished. Just need to base them and the security guards up and then they are done. This leaves me with about 4 figs to do for BOYL. Plus the jalopy. And finishing off Ferrograd. Easy. I've still got 5 and a half weeks!

....doesn't mean they're not after you!

Just finished a bunch of Paranoia troopers. Traditionally they should be red but I thought I'd make them blue as I want to use them as security troopers in Ferrograd.

Lead Adventurers

As I've nothing to show painting wise at the moment, I thought I'd chat about one of the defining ranges of figures for Rogue Trader. The Adventurers.

Ferrograd Scenario

I've been doing a bit of emailing back and forth with Cheetor and Asslessman and I've gotten to the point where I have a decent idea of the Scenario that Cheetor and I are going to play at BOYL and that Asslessman is going to GM in proper old school style.

The scenario is in three parts, Pirates, Ork Freebooters and GM. I'm going to keep the GM part secret until after BOYL as Cheetor has suggested that if anybody else wants to have a go at playing the game during the weekend then we could (any of the 3 of us) could GM it for them when the table is free. If anybody is interested contact me here, through the forum or through the FB group.

Any way, on to the briefings.

(Tech)Gangnam Style

I managed to grab lots of little bits of time to finish the Tech Gang off, They aren't the best paint job in the world but I think they are pretty effective.
Next up is the hive gang an then I want to do another half dozen more figs and then I'm all done.
All that's left after that is the finishing touches to Ferrograd and I'm all ready for the drive to the midlands!

Nemesis the Warlock Vs 40K

While reading through the Oldhammer facebook group the other day there was a very interesting thread that started off as a idea about starting a oldhammer book club and turned into a discussion about the early influences on warhammer and Rogue Trader. the interesting thing was that the people having the discussion were the people who were actually there, Rick Priestly and Tony Ackland. Aside from the revelation that John Blanche really doesn't read much there was a lot of chat about classic Fantasy and sci-fi novels having influenced various folks there was this quote from Rick.
"Dune and 2000AD - well that's 40K really - to which you have to add Dr Who, Blakes 7, Star Trek, Star Wars and such like - Heavy Metal magazine"
to which Tony added
"Nemesis the Warlock from 2000AD was a big influence on 40K. That reminds me of the early days when I used to call in the newsagent's to pick up 3 copies of 2000AD. One for Bryan, one for Tom Meier, and one for myself."
Now I've long been a fan of 2000ad and I've written on this very blog that Rogue Trader was hugely influenced by the anarchic, anti-establishment, post-punk atmosphere of the times but it's nice to see it commented on so openly.
So I thought, why not do a bit of a trawl through the Nemesis the Warlock universe and see what it was that actually influenced the chaps behind our favourite table-top, sci-fi, dice rolling, toy soldier pushing past time.

Nerd Gang

It occurred to me that the Tech-gangs from confrontation are essentially just armed cyber-nerds which is an idea that quite tickles me! Kind of an ultra-agressive IT support.
"I don't believe you have tried turning it off and on again! Die in ignorance user scum!"

I've finished off the first of the Tech-gang for the Confrontation Royal rumble at BOYL14. I need to base him to blend into the streets of Ferrograd but I'll get round to it when I've finished both gangs.
Here's another view. 9 figure to go! (plus another 7 I decided to paint!) I've working on the scenario for the pirate game as well and I'm going to send it to Asslessman for him to peruse as he has kindly offered to GM the game in proper old school stylee. Once I'm happy with it I'll publish it here in the week before the big day.

Musings on the Astronomican and Speed Bumps

I've been reading The Book of the Astronomican since it arrived (well, was picked up from the mardy delivery bint) and I have to say I have throroughly enjoyed it. I've had a PDF of said publication for quite some time but haven't read it in much depth. I have now. It's a funny old tome. Half it is pure RT genius and the other half is the thing we have come to fear and loath in 40k, army lists.

The Genius first.

Happy e-bay day!

This is my 100th post. 95 of which have been since October. I have had over 20,000 views and I've got 72 followers. So I thought it was about time I did an unboxing. That unimaginative staple of certain gaming blogs. What makes this a little different is that I'm unboxing an ebay win that I had to go and collect from some housewife (she is a Hermes delivery agent and wasn't too enthused about having to try and redeliver to my house at a sensible time). So the box above is what I finally got back to my house (one of five packages today, more of which in a bit)

Gang Bangin!

Now that I've finished the Pirates for my first game at BOYL14 I need to move on to figures for the other games. So far I've signed up for 4 games. RT pirate shenanigans with Cheetor, then a confrontation bring and bash GM'ed by Asslessman, the Rt GorkaMorka bash and a Sensei head to head between at least 7 of us in a Highlander style fight to the finish. The Jalopy is well on it's way and I'll get round to it soon. The Sensei have been done for ages and just needs a bit of a clean up.
Which leaves us with the confrontation game. The plan is to do 3 gangs that I can bring along for other people to use. The second gang that I've put together is this kit-bashed Tech Gang.
