So, I took my brave boy pills and took my newly painted Renegade Army to a local 2 day tournament. I'd never met any of the other players and I had never played with the army. My experince with the game is still pretty limited and I'm as prepared as can be.
Turns out all the folks there were lovely and I even recognised people I'd played with in another couple of tournies, so my nerves were unfounded. My first game was against anotjer player who was taking his first steps in to the local scene and, like me, was new to the local scene.
His Dwarfs consisted of a coule of units of warriors, a unit of hammerers, a unit of Irondrakes, some skirmishing rangers, a couple of Gyrocopters, a couple of Cannons and an Anvil. Fairly standard stuff.
I knew I wanted to steer away from the Hammerers as much as possible and I also knew that he would probably be able to outshoot me so the plan was to be as aggressive as possible with the main units and delay the hammerers and rangers with the smaller cavalry unit.
My Bombards turn out to be pretty useful and targetted the gyrocopters as much as possible while the cavalry and infantry headed for the warriors. I tried to isolate one unit but they stuck pretty close together.
The Larger infantry unit (the Compay of the Golden Coin) went after the Iron drakes, and as you can imagine, got shot to bits on the way in, however the combat eventually went their way and they survived despite losing over 75% of the unit by the end of the game.
The other infantry (The Kompany Van Koch) and the Ogres, with the help of the Prince and his cavalry were able to defeat the Dwarf warriors and then burst through to deal with the cannons and the Anvil.
The smaller unit of Cavalry got sucked into a combat with the rangers that eventually allowed the hammerers into the combat and unsurprsingly got their horsey arses handed to them.
The combats ground on for most of the game but in the end the Renegade Crowns were able to pull a win out of the game.
The rest of the pics were taken by the tourney organsier of the army when they were out for display for the best army competition (the army came runner up by the way).
Looks like a grand day out!
