The Company of the Golden Coin

Ever since GW released Old World I've wanted to do an army based in the Border Princes. A struggling fiefdom battling against it's neighbours for some elbow room. At first I was going to use the Bretonnian Exiles list from their Arcane Journal but, as you can see from the lack of an army, they just didn't ring my bell enough for me to dive in.

This has all changed since The War of Settra's Fury came out and the Renegade Crowns army list was released. All of a sudden all my years of collecting from the Citadel Fighters range had a point and I could get stuck into a proper army of mercenaries, the kind that the illustrations in Warhammer armies had promised me so long ago.

As you can see, the book is full of illustrations of coats of arms of a variety of petty kings. The range and choices in the list filled my with joy and I got straight into prepping the first unit.

The figures in the unit are a mix of the citadel F2 fighter ranges and the Marauder MM60 ranges but there are odds and sods from other ranges, like Lord of the rings or Blandford warriors and some figures for the C series fighters as well, they are mercenaries after all!

This is how the unit looked before I through them into the dangerous world of actually playing games. By the time they took part in a local tournament they had a new Wizard added (from the Foundry range of unreleased Citadel figures) and another rank added alongside a new banner bearer from the Assualt Group fantasy range.

By the time they were fighting for their lives they constituted 26 Veteran Sellswords, a Border Princes Captain (and BSB) with a level 3 Outcast Wizard.

I'll have more pics an reports from the games coming in the next few posts but all you need to know is they survived all but one of the battles, where they were instead brutally pulped by a big nasty minotaur!
