Game 4 - Dwarfs...Again!

Last game of the weekend was agianst another Dwarf player, this time it was an Expeditionary Force army. The board consisted of a fairly open middle area with two forests in the middle, either side of the centre, essentially dividing the table into thirds. I was very wary of beimng shot to bits by the cannons and Thunderers so I deployed in as much cover as possible, using the forests to shield me as much as possible. Infantry on the left and Cavalry on the right.

Obviouisly, being a Expeditionary list, there were a load of gyrocopters and even more rangers. All these Dwarfs vanguarded and scouted down either flank of the table, and it looked like they were going to pincer me and shoot me anyway. A unit of rangers on both sides of the board were in ranger to turn my units into pincushions.

However, I had some tricks up my sleeve! Using the bombards I pelted the gyropcoters mercilessly and after a couple of rounds and some charges from the cavalry, they were no longer an issue. The pistoliers ambushed on the rear of the dwarf deployment and caused their cannons no end of headaches. But using Steed of shadows I flew the smaller infantry unit over the forest and straight towards the main Dwarf unit still chilling in their deplyment area.

With all the other units moving forward, it left the rangers stranded without any targets and the central dwarf force under threat. The pistoliers empty their guns into the cannons as the rest of the ramy powered up the centre.

The centre was made up of a unit of Warriors with a Thane on shieldbearers plus a unit of thunderers on one flank and two cannons on the other. My units did get hammered with shot and grapeshot but my saves were getting me out of the worst of the situation.

A concerning moment did occur when I rolled a miscast and then rolled up to find the unit gatting hammered by a massive explosion, however it was suddenly realised that it was a magic item and not a spell so nothing happened! Whew! Infantry charged a cannon and cavalry charged the thunderers and suddenly we were in this position (see pic below)

At this point my opponent conceded and shook my hand, with his big unit surrounded and about to be multi-charged and his two rangers units completely out of position, I can see why he didn't fancy his chances but I would have liked to have seen the fight to the end.

So that's it, I seem to have found a local group of players and there are more events coming in the future. I'm looking forward to them.

Cheers
