Hobgoblin Rampant

The first miniatures of the year roll off the production line (well, the kitchen table) in the form of another 20 Aly Morrison Hobgoblins. These maniacal little sneaks will eventually be a third of the Hobgoblin infantry strength in the army. I've been doing them in dribs and drabs since the start of the year (you know what going back to work is like) and it's nice to a solid chunk of figures under my belt in January.

Much to the amusement of my wife i decided to arrange the current army out on the table and see how they look. I think I've got enough to game with now. I just need to start looking at getting more variety squeezed in.

While i was at it, i thought i'd have a look at how I could arrange the figures for playing Dragon Rampant. As you are no doubt aware, DR, requires units in 6's or 12's so after a quick shuffle.

This is how they look. 1 unit of 12 half orcs (Light foot), 1 unit of 12 orc archers (light missiles), 3 units of 12 hobgobs (bellicose foot), 1 unit of 6 black orcs (elite foot), 1 troll (lesser war beasts)

Next up is some cavalry, the boss and maybe some artillery!

  1. In my mind it definitely looks like an army! And I definitely agree they feel like they need some cavalry to expand next.

  2. Don't forget, DR allows for reduced model units, so you don't have to stick to the 6 & 12 unit sizes.

    Damned fine collection though.

  7. Green skins! Good stuff, maybe they need to fight some other greenies soon?

  8. Sad how that one unit has better models than the entire current GW orc and goblin range. I really wish i had picked up Hobgoblins back in the day.

  9. Those look lovely.

Increments of six you say... do the need to rank (square bases)?

  10. A gorgeous looking army, well done indeed! Dragon Rampant looks more and more tempting after seeing them all laid out for it.
