Her Brutish Bodyguard, Hurtz - He used to be the family goat but Giselle's powers have transformed him into her loyal protector.
Her right hand man - The Mad monk, another practictioner of the dark arts he is loyal to his mistress and is learning all he can from her.
Hurtz was inspired by one of a series of dutch comics, entitled 'de Geuzen' (the name that the dutch rebels originally called themselves, it means 'beggars'), that are set during the dutch rebellion and feature supernatural goings on.
In addition to the stars, co-stars and zombies I'll take 5 mercenaries and upgrade one to leader. These will be Spanish soldiers sent to guard Giselle and her town from some English troublemakers who have been in the area (although in future I might use some lansknechts as they are proper mercenaries!)

Still a bit of work to do on these guys but they're only a decent evenings work away from being finished |
This is where our heroes come in! I've only called them English cos the lead character looks like some swashbuckling english rogue but I might just decide that they are in fact a fool hardy bunch of Sea beggars intent on causing the spanish as much grief as possible.
The Heroes will consist of Sir Thomas Cocksure - A Dashing Rogue leading his band of freedom fighters in daring raids across the low countries.
A couple of as yet unamned co-stars who will be Brothers in arms (although I'm quite tempted to have an enchanting beauty instead, the foundry pack I got does have a female model with an arquebus).

Some bits and bobs to do on some of these, mostly beards and hair! |
The extras will take the form of three veterans (halberd armed) with one upgraded to a leader and five warriors armed with arquebuses (with one again upgraded to a leader).
Also in the post this morning was a load of the new Fantasy buildings form 4ground. I reckon they are perfect for the setting so expect to see them getting built up in the next couple of weeks.
You've got to stop showing stuff like this Colin - I keep getting sucked in and thinking about what I might do for the same setting / game. Trouble is, my output is infinitely slower than yours, so I'd never get anything finished.
ReplyDeleteAll the figures look great, but Hurtz is the winner for me - great background and a really interesting model.
Lol - I'm glad my daft ideas are infectious. I like little games like this as it's only a few miniatures. I paint quickly out of necessity. I don't get much time (a couple of minutes here and there) so I make sure stuff is ready to grab and put a couple of coats on something, that way stuff gets done!
DeleteI'm looking forward to seeing how Hurtz turns out.
Damn it, my kids have an angina and I barely find energy to paint a fistful of squats, you get a new kid and you paint models for a whole game... and loveley ones on top of that...
ReplyDeleteGood job Colin ;)
To be fair a lot of the mini's were in a state of half-done-ness so it's not as much as it seems. I like the idea that the mini's can be used in several different games. Multi-purpose is the way to go!
DeleteThis is just the sort of game I've been imagining at the back of my mind for goodness knows how long. Great stuff WP. Intrested to see how the rules work out as I'm eagerly awaiting the OW rendition of this game.
ReplyDeleteWell i'm hoping to get the figures and scenery done by the time we meet at your brothers so if folks want a game I'm happy to GM and bring all the bits and bobs.
DeleteI'm there on the Friday and Saturday, couldn't make any other days.
DeleteI haven't asked the wife what day I'm allowed out yet!
DeleteNice work. Those head changes really make those characters.
ReplyDeleteAlso, please stop making new projects look so interesting. Figure out a way to make me interested in my old projects!
Thanks! Can't help you with your old projects, I'm just as guilty of failing to get stuff done!
DeleteGreat concept and really well realised. I started a 'Witchfinder General' project a year back, but it's rather fallen by the wayside. When I saw what you've been up to I immediately thought of some of the new North Star 17th Century 'personality' models. Historically somewhat later later than the Foundry stuff you've painting up, but I doubt few would notice: http://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=123&cat=324&page=1
ReplyDeleteYeah I love those figures but 100 years out is just to much for me (bit of historical gamer pedantry hangover, I have an issue with using lansknechts that are 40 years out!) but the old graven images range has a set of civillians that i'm thinking of using.
DeleteI really like that "swashbuckling english rogue" mini! The pose/paint job combined make him the stand out mini for me.
ReplyDeleteCool.
He's a great figure. I hope one day Mike Owen goes back and adds more figures to the range through his own Artizan Designs.
DeleteI just loooove Hurtz! What an awesome conversion and so simple, too. :)
ReplyDeleteWhere is that head you used from?
The head is from the current GW beastman sprue. You have to love them for bits!
DeleteOh man! I'm loving all this, every time I take a look here you manage yourself to surprise me!
ReplyDeleteGreat to see these all coming together, albeit nearly 6 years after the event! The Spaniards and English(?) look really good, and historical headswap with beastmen is really my jam for this 'period'. The "de Geuzen" comic looks great, will have to dig around to find out more.
