My life as a mini architect

I've been busy at work this week and utterly knackered by the time I get home but next week is half term holiday do I should be able to get more done. I have been able to paint one of the signs I got from Ramshackle games, but not a lot of more painting has been done.

However plans are afoot to extend the board I showed off in the previous post in order for it to be large enough to host asslessmans confrontation royal rumble at oldhammer day. I was thinking about building a second board the same size but wasn't too happy with the shape that would leave. I did like the idea that you could have the board divided into physical sectors with doors going between. Then it occurred to me that you could have more sectors by turning the board 45degrees and adding triangular sections on each side. This will provide a larger play area and also divide the area into 6 different zones that I can name and theme separately.

Look I did computer stuff to show off my idea! Google Sketch-up is ace! But you can see how the corners enlarge the area quite happily!

And here it is in real life. They are made in two different levels to correspond with the two levels on the central board. I'll attack them with paint next week. I obviously have to populate these new sections so I've glued together some more hexagonal prisms at work (in the few minutes I could waste un-guiltily!) which will start to transform themselves into more buildings tomorrow as I run the kids warhammer club after school and that gives me time to faff!

    2. Paul, don't know if you checked the event thread on the forum , but there are multiple opportunities to enjoy a good slice of RT skirmish, some very loose and asking for almost no beforehand implication make sure you pick one mate ;)

  3. Impressive output as ever. Are you going to base your pirates to match this terrain now?

  4. I was just thinking about that. I was originally going to wait to see what board we were going to play on. I had pictured our game being outside on farm world or something to suit the boards that foundry are likely to have but If you fancy running our game on this board we could just play using the central section and then when we finish we can just rearrange all the scenery and add the extensions for the confrontation game. I would certainly make basing a simpler choice. Have you started basing your figs?

    1. I am more than happy to play multiple games on your new and very cool looking terrain set if that suits you Colin. I am just as happy to play our pirate game on an existing Foundry table if you would rather that too. As you are doing all the heavy lifting (literally is some cases) for this game, I will go along with whatever you want. It should be fun one way or another :)

Regarding basing, I base all my wargame miniatures the same way these days: a decidedly neutral grey/brown sand look with an occasional dead grass tuft or piece of masonry. My pirates will be based that way regardless of what table we play on anyway, so no need to make any aesthetic decision for your stuff based on that.

FWIW basing your pirates to match this new terrain set seems like a no-brainer to me. They already look like they belong together if you know what I mean.

    2. Decision made. We'll play on the undercity board and I'll get the the pirates based accordingly.

  5. The sign looks suitably oldschool. Nice one!

How will you handle the frame of the original board? I was half expecting the added sections to be level with the frame.

    1. The idea is to have a door (or two) that will allow figures to pass in between sections. All I'm going to do is glue a couple of doors to an MDF sign (sector 13 East) and if i space it right it should clip over the current board edge allowing them to be positioned wherever. There won't be a physical hole but there will be a two sided doorway.
