Thug Life!

So, you're a Chaos Champion. You want to do a bit of conquering and rampaging. You're gonna need an army. It's all well and good having your big meaty, armoured retinue but there's not a lot of them. The beastmen are fairly useful but they smell awful and you can never quite tell if they've understood your orders. As for the minotaurs and ogres....sheesh. No, you need some human followers of the dark gods. Some useful cannon fodder who can actually hold a conversation as well as take part in a summoning or two. You need some Chaos thugs!

These illustrations come from the Chaos Thug entries from Warhammer armies and Slave to Darkness. There were three levels of Human mortal in the chaos lists, the highest being the Warriors, with the Marauders beneath and at the bottom of the pile are the Chaos Thugs. The lists contain options for both mounted and foot. Unfortunately for us citadel never made any mounted thugs. We can only imagine what they would have been like.

But they did make a load of foot troops!

Trouble at mill

We bless the Father that our brethren were able to avoid the agents of the undead king as they met at the edge of the sea. In desperation our brethren fled underground and were taken in by a some dregs. Some were twisted and all were desperate but they were useful to the Father. The red monks who service the undead king had a redoubt close to the nest of the Dregs. The Father commanded that we enter the redoubt and obtain some knowing from a talking machine. This knowing would help the Father in building the brood's power. We set out.

Notorious Criminal Caught on Pict

FEED - Beta42#a12-2
The Notorious criminal, raconteur, smuggler, thief and bon viveur, Abdul Goldberg, has been spotted during a raid on a outpost in Carentine sub-sector. He and his crew attempted to override the security on the chromite deposit vaults. During their operation a data-input-output vestibule caught fire and the outposts fire suppression systems were activated. At this point the observation feeds were cut. The crew of the outpost were later released unharmed by a sub-sector arbiter security launch which was investigating the automatic signal sent by  the indentured astropath who had also proved to be flammable.

The Goldberg capers

Ok. I'll admit it. I'm bored. I'm on duty in the naughty kids room (taken out of their normal lessons for being pains) and besides telling them to be quiet I've got very little to keep me awake. So lets start writing and see where we go.

Darrin over at He of three names launched a little competition on Emporium of Rogue Dreams. The aim of the competition was create your own Abdul Goldberg.

Now we've talked about good old Abdul before but I've never gotten round to doing anything about building a figure. So this time I will. More of him later. But for those of you who don't know, Mr Goldberg pops up in some of the Game/Campaign ideas in the generator tables in the RT rulebook and is the only recurring character in there. Go have a read, it's one of my favourite parts of the book.

Anyway, another part of the comp is that we need to write a bit of fluff about our version of the  inestimable Abdul, we have to give him a bit of flavour and background and maybe discuss his crew and his exploits.

So while I'm trapped in this room I thought the best way to do that would be to shamelessly filch some pics from the tinterwebs and make up shit about them.

You with me? Cracking. Lets Go!

Squats to bend your mind!!!

The Squat range first appeared in White dwarf 94 and in the book of the Astrnomican and obviously they'd been in the RT rule book. Heavy weapons appeared in WD 97 along with command models. Two model appeared in the adventurers range in WD99 and then in WD100 this lot appeared.

The god like genius that is Bob Olley (he charges by the mm you know!) produced this range of Squats for citadel at the height of the Golden Era. They were his first of two ranges of squats and the 32 figures here help make the humble squat one of the most numerous ranges within the early Rogue Trader ouvre.
