Beastie boys

Another quick update for the warband. 3 beastmen are now finished along with their Bovine big brother. Obviously basing needs to be done but I'll do them all in one go once they are painted.

Mother's Day Cow

A quick post to show that despite it being Mother's Day I managed to squeeze in a bit of painting.

Resuming normal service

One of the things that is most motivating for me is a deadline. If I know something has to be done by a certain time of date the it'll get done. I quite like it like that. So if a deadline appears in my 'hobby life' then it tends to be the thing that I concentrate on. Mini's will jump ahead in the painting queue and stuff will get done. I've tried giving myself deadlines but I'm a slack boss and they don't normally work too well. The best hobby deadlines are impending games. They always get me back to painting and I work out in my head how to get things finished in a set period of time and the standard I'll accept from myself in order to get it done on time. So with this in mind I've got a couple of deadlines looming that have appeared over the last couple of days.

Thankyou Asslessman! Or how to get a Head in the Blogosphere.

Yesterday The wonderful Asslessman from leadplague blog nominated me for a Liebster award. After a bit of faffing it turns out this is a kind of blogging chain-letter that is passed between Bloggers in an attempt to get other peoples blogs noticed and to give lots of backslapping and good vibes to each other.

Mat attack - part deux

My sixth formers were so impressed with the mat I made a couple of weeks ago that they said I should make another one (i think they are just trying to keep me busy while they make a mess of their own projects) so not needing much encouragement a grabbed a wee bit more paint and some more caulk (as I had stuff already I spent less than a fiver). I thought i'd take some pics of the process this time. Above you can see the canvas clamped down to the board. I'm lucky enough to work in school where there are lots of large MDF boards to use.

Da Boys

In a follow up to the last post I thought I'd show the naked metal that should eventually become my RT era bloodaxe army.

First up the boss and his power armoured Nobs.

Why da Orks?

It doesn't show from my posts so far on this blog but I am, I must confess, a massive fan of Orks. With a K. Always have been. They were my first army when I was a callow pre-teen and they were my first army when I re connected with the hobby nearly 10 years ago.

A quick visit from the good captain

Distracted by a cyborg and dreaming of Kislev

I knew it would happen. I was full of good intentions of getting stuck in to fantasy stuff but there was a niggling in the back of my head. 'Paint me'. 'Paint me'.

Escape from Gerson's Rest

One of my oldest gaming mates, Linz, appeared in the vicinity of chez Whiskey yesterday and came round to say hiya after work. Once he'd been fed with a curry and some strong coffee and we'd caught up with gossip and he'd been treated to a couple of hours of the wife's favourite TV shows (Vampire Diaries and Grey's Anatomy) we decided to have a school night game of Rogue Trader.

As he had no figures with him we decided that we'd roll up a Rogue Trader and retinue using the Random Inquisitor rules I put together a couple of posts ago. He rolled like a jammy bastard and got five go's on the retinue table. In the end this gave him 1 Rogue Trader, 2 Human heroes, 4 marines, 4 Stormtroopers (which we played as armsmen) and 4 guard (who we played as landing party red shirts).

The green, green grass of.....where ever!

Yesterday, as my sixth formers worked away on their own projects, I made a lovely smushy mess in order to make a gaming mat. I didn't take any pictures of the actual process as it's fairly well described on here and also because it made such mess that I didn't fancy getting brown gunk all over my phone. I left the mat drying over night.
This morning I came in and this is what I've got!

A wee celebration!

Just a little post to celebrate  the 10,000th view if this daft little blog. Thankyou all for taking the time to read my blethering! I Have actually had this place since 2007 but up until October last year only 4 people had ever seen my ramblings. Thanks to Snicket for outing me I've since put up 60 odd posts and have helped to order my hobby doings.
Thankyou also to the 56 people who have decided to waste some of their precious time following this blog.
I promise to try and continue to publish stuff  that is at least diverting and if not down right interesting!
Cheers! I'll have a dram to celebrate tonight!

The fate of Felderberg

I think I've been focusing on Rogue Trader a lot recently and my collected hordes of oldhammer fantasy figs have been neglected. To resolve this problem I want to combine getting the Netherport watch / 'How do you start Oldhammer' project finished with something that'll get my goblinoid army started. So I figured I'd create a scenario with a view to getting the figures painted and being able to play a decent game with my mates.
What I want to do is figure out what one force will consist of and then I can figure out how much I want to paint for the opposing force, using Warhammer Armies as a guide for points.

The Battle of Nittin

So as you'll know, I travelled up to Scotland to visit some mates (which actually turned out to be less mates than expected, but that's another story but also the reason we only ended up playing one game. ) and we had a game of rogue trader on Saturday. As my host doesn't play regularly (he is one of the guys who I played with as a kid and he's being lured back in mwahahaha!) I provided the majority of the scenery, this was obviously limited by what I could squeeze into a backpack as I was flying sleazy jet and didn't want to pay for extra baggage.  After I dug around in the garden for some bits and bobs we ended up with the above set up.
